I have spent all of the last three hours trying to install ram to the 2nd set of slots for dual channel. Having 2 ram slots doesn't affect anything, other than the fact that upgrade options are more limited compared to having 4 slots.

When using dual channel memory on a motherboard with 2 slots does slot 1 become 1 & 3 while slot 2 becomes 2 & 4? But your cpus memory controller is what will decide what size dimms it can take.
The usb 3.0 works on the replacement board, but i can't install the ram to the second set of slots! So if you get 2 x 8gb sticks and slot correctly will run in dual cahnnel. If 16 gb is not enough then you need to get new memory completely.
With 4 slots, just buy more memory if needed. Those are probably the only two slots which are upgradeable with ram. So buying a 2 slot motherboard now may be saving you money now.
Slots 1 and 2 on my m/b work fine but if i try 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 then all i get is a blank screen. Double check task manager or send a screenshot so we can check it out. I've read in various places that the dual channel slots furthest from the cpu (2+4) are somehow better to use than slots 1+3 if you only have two sticks.
